Panels and Presentations at SXSW 2018: Vote Smartmatic today!

United Kingdom, London - August 23, 2017 - Smartmatic has submitted two innovative ideas for the upcoming South by Southwest (SXSW) 2018 event, and we need your help to bring them to life by voting at SXSW’s Panel Picker before Friday, August 25.

The two panels highlight different elements of the electronic voting industry, each of which Smartmatic is uniquely positioned to comment on as the world’s leading election technology and services provider.

The two sessions include:

1.    Shattering Glass: Latinas at Smartmatic and Yahoo

Envisioning a bold future, this panel – which includes Samira Saba, Smartmatic Integrated Communications Director; Carolina Casares, Yahoo Latin America Senior Director, Head of Media; and Kety Esquivel, Edelman Miami Senior Vice President – will discuss the role of Latinas in tech both as users and as leaders of tech companies. “How can technology give voice to Latinas in Latin America and the U.S.? How can Latinas permeate the glass ceiling in Tech? These are some of the questions that we will address during this panel,” said Samira Saba.

According to the National Center for Women Information Technology (NCWIT) only 26% of professional computing jobs are performed by women and according to a recent piece by NBC News only 5% of tech employees are people of color. This proposed SXSW session will explore what the future holds for Latinas and the Tech Industry and how these powerful Latinas can continue to push for change and shatter the glass ceiling.

2.    Securing Voting Technology to Secure Democracy

Technology is profoundly changing how voters are able to engage with and participate in democracy. Now that 50% of the world’s population have access to the internet and 2.5 billion people use smartphones, it’s time to bring the ballot box into the 21st century – and ensure effective solutions are in place to protect votes and voters alike.

This presentation bySmartmatic CEO and Founder Antonio Mugicawill analyze the technology behind elections and discuss how innovation in voting will reshape the future of democratic participation.

SXSW 2018 participants and the general public are encouraged to vote (after a quick registration process) for these panels via the 2018 SXSW Panel Picker website at ( and ( before voting closes this Friday (August 25th).
