United States – April 03, 2023 – Smartmatic recently completed its first technology and services deployment in Australia, providing the voter identification solution for the March 2023 New South Wales State election.
Smartmatic supplied over 7,000 Voter Identification Units (VIUs), known as Voting Centre Devices in Australia, under an agreement with the New South Wales Electoral Commission (NSWEC).
As part of a complete outsourced solution, the company leased the devices loaded with the VIU software application suite to the customer and provided warehouse operations/logistics, device preparation/configuration, training, Help Desk, and sanitization of devices after the election.
Smartmatic had a real impact with both staff and electors. The solution improved the accuracy of voter identification and search times. The result was shorter wait times and easier workflow for voting center staff.
Smartmatic’s battery operated VIUs provided longer run times and reduced downtime compared to the prior NSWEC devices. Our professional services team exceeded all the contract requirements and stakeholder feedback has been extremely positive.
As part of the contract, Smartmatic and the NSWEC will work together to further enhance the operations and functionality offered for future elections.
The March 2023 New South Wales Parliamentary election is seen as a springboard to Smartmatic’s increased operations in Oceania and in the larger Asia Pacific region.
