Ed Smith to Chair Elections Infrastructure Sector Coordinating Council
Boca Raton, Florida – February 17, 2022 – Smartmatic’s Edwin Smith was recently named Chair of the Elections Infrastructure Sector Coordinating Council (SCC) for 2022. Smith, the company’s Director of Global Services and Certification for North America, is a longtime election technology and administration veteran. With more than 80 state and federal voting system certifications to his credit, Ed is regarded as an expert in system certification, compliance and security.
The Elections SCC has 43 members from a diverse set of companies. It is guided by a five-member executive committee comprised of a Chair (the position to which Smith was named), Vice-Chair, Past-Chair, and two At-Large members.

Smith oversees all of Smartmatic’s election support functions including equipment provision, and technology deployment, as well as compliance, certification testing and interface with federal agencies. He directed Service Delivery for the debut of the groundbreaking Los Angeles County Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) election system for the 2020 California primary and presidential election. He has been a speaker at numerous US Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and other election roundtables and conferences. Smith received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and his MBA from University of Phoenix, Colorado Campus.
Elections were named Critical Infrastructure by DHS in January of 2017. By federal law, a Critical Infrastructure sector must form a Sector Coordinating Council, comprised of private enterprise entities who own, hold, or service that critical infrastructure.
