Brazil: Connecting rural voters in the world’s 5th largest country

Since 1986 Brazil has been spearheading election automation. Today, its 147 million voters use electronic voting machines to cast their ballots; results are transmitted, consolidated and published electronically; and biometric technology is implemented in certain cities to validate the identity of voters.

Given the sheer size of its territory, the large number of registered voters, and the many challenges involved in administering such complex elections, the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) outsources crucial steps of its processes.

As the world leader of the elections industry, Smartmatic has partnered with TSE to help improve the efficiency and transparency of three national elections – 2012, 2014 & 2016.
