Smartmatic brings end-to-end electronic voting to Kyrgyzstan
Bishtek, Kyrgyzstan - November 17, 2015 - Smartmatic, the world’s leading election technology and services provider, recently deployed an end-to-end solution to help conduct the student senate elections at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) in the city of Bishtek, Kyrgyzstan.
Smartmatic relied on its comprehensive portfolio of solutions to guarantee a fully secure, transparent and efficient automated election.
This pilot, conducted on November 6, responds to the University’s effort to foster the modernisation of democracy in Kyrgyzstan. "Universities have a key role to play in the advancement of societies through innovation. The end-to-end voting solution we deployed with the help of our partners and AUCA represents a firm step towards building the future of elections in Kyrgyzstan" said Antonio Mugica, Smartmatic’s CEO.
During the days leading to the elections, Smartmatic deployed its VIU-800 devices to capture student’s biometric and biographic information and build a voter register.
On Election Day, voting students experienced an end-to-end automated solution which encompassed biometric authentication and electronic voting. After validating their identity via biometrics, students selected their preferences using Smartmatic’s SAES-3377 touchscreen voting machines. Results were published immediately.
"A technology that is fit for purpose and well implemented, makes every process better. With that in mind we have designed end-to-end solutions that make each phase of the election more secure, accurate, faster and transparent. This debut of electronic voting in Bishtek, is a great reason to be optimistic about the future of election administration in Kyrgyzstan" added Mugica.
The VIU-800 is an all-in-one device that allows authorities to biometrically register voters and authenticate them prior to voting. This device can also work as an e-poll book to help authorities manage polling stations.
