Voting technology demonstrations begin

Maracay, June 19, 2004.- A batch made up by seven SAES3000 voting machines arrived this Friday to Aragua's headquarters of the Electoral National Council (CNE). The machines were sent there to show their operation to the voters of that state, by means of demonstrations in public zones of pedestrian transit.

According to Simon Alvarado, director of CNE Aragua, the machines will be used to demonstrate their operation in the upcoming referendum process and in the subsequent regional election of September 26. The machines will be located in shopping centers, markets and pedestrian zones to fulfill such an end.

The first batch of 11 machines that arrived to that state has already been assigned to the training of CANTV's technicians and operators that will participate in the electoral process. 249 out of the 313 voting centers that will operate in the state of Aragua, will be automated with SAES.

Additionally, SAES demonstrations already started in Valencia by means of meetings with the press. Through a referendum dry run, the journalists were able to confirm the new technology's ease of use, as well as the operation of each machine's built-in printers, used for the physical record of the votes.

The arrival of eight additional voting machines to the headquarters of the CNE in the state of Carabobo is expected over the next few days. These new SAES3000 machines, supplied by Smartmatic, will be used for public demonstrations in different municipalities of the state.
