Smartmatic, founding member of the DHS Council to protect election integrity and security
United States, Florida - June 6, 2018 - Smartmatic announced today that it is participating in the Department of Homeland Security’s Sector Coordinating Council, (SCC) for the Election Infrastructure Subsector.
This council on Election Security is a collaborative effort between the Department of Homeland Security, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), state and local election officials, and other election technology providers.
Commenting on Smartmatic’s participation in the council, Kevin Shelly, President of Smartmatic USA stated: “We are proud to be taking part in this effort to improve the security of our elections. On January 6, 2017 the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) designated elections systems as part of the nation’s critical infrastructure and created a subsector under the existing Government Facilities Sector. Since, DHS has been taking a leading role in promoting a debate on election integrity, cybersecurity, and other crucial challenges facing US election administrators.
