Smartmatic creates a joint venture with CGC, the prestigious group of electoral experts
Caracas, October 17, 2003.- Smartmatic, the ultrasafe device-networking solutions provider, announces the creation of its business unit for electoral automation, through a joint venture with the international CGC group, which has more than 20 years of experience in electoral processes in the United States and 22 other countries around the world.
The Political Division of the United Nations and the United Nations Development Program gave CGC an award in 2001, for its involvement in 50 electoral processes in different parts of the world. CGC is known worldwide in the electoral arena:
Jorge Tirado, president of CGC, has been consultant for the State Electoral Commission of Puerto Rico since1975. He has participated in more than 63 electoral processes as consultant or as head of CGC, leading technological initiatives and process lines to ensure transparent elections.
"CGC has a multidisciplinary team from different countries, and experts in electoral issues", says Tirado. We have the best specialists in the areas of electoral technology, electoral laws, and the architecture of electoral processes; they have ample academic training and above all, a solid experience in the area. We have participated directly in several of the most complex processes of the world, including Kosovo, Russia, Peru and Ecuador."
Antonio Mugica, CEO of Smartmatic, says that: "CGC is highly recommended by international organizations like the UN, the OAS and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, IFES. The acquisition of the group strengthens the company's incursion in the electoral automation market".
"The joint venture between Smartmatic and CGC produced the only voting technology company with a team of electoral experts with proven experience to handle all the aspects of an electoral process, far and beyond the mere technical aspects", he concludes.
