Smartmatic analizes voting systems in Mexico

The city of Santiago Queretaro (in Queretaro, Mexico) hosted, from October 26 to October 28, 2005, the XVII National Congress and I International Election Studies organized by five parties: the Mexican Society of Election Studies (MSES), the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the Autonomous University of Querétaro, the Election Institute of Querétaro, the Election Federal Institute and the Election Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation.

Smartmatic displayed its election solution SAES and a research project called Voting Automated Systems: Factors to be considered. Three key points are analyzed in this document: a) standards to be considered by a nation when assessing automated systems b) alternative automated election processes available in the market and, c) the future of electronic voting in Mexico, among others.

Humberto Herrera, Director of Smartmatic in Mexico, highlighted the superior technology, flexibility and auditability of the voting technology of SAES machines, one of which (model SAES3000) was displayed to be tried by the public and to answer any question about the system.

The XVII National Congress and I Election Studies International gave access to the analysis, discussion and diffusion for the development of the election processes, the electoral behavior of the citizens and the technological advances in the area, in Latin America and Europe. Among the participants at the event were university professors, advisors and members of the election powers, officers of the public administration from Latin American countries and well-known international specialists in the field.
