SAES obtains zero error in pre-election audit
Caracas, November 27, 2006 - The Smartmatic Automated Election System (SAES) demonstrated one more time a solid performance, after having zero numerical inconsistencies and 100% accuracy in the tabulation of results, during a pre-election audit held this weekend.
A total of 162 SAES3000 and SAES3300 electronic voting machines were under scrutiny from specialists of the Venezuelan Electoral Power, political parties representatives and local and international observers. The sample represented 0.5% of the 32,400 units to be deployed in the upcoming presidential elections, on December 3rd.
During the simulation, operators and technicians from audit teams cast votes on each of the machines and, upon completion of the process, the data was transmitted to the Tally Center of the National Electoral Commission. The information showed total accuracy to both vote tallies stored in machines? memory and the count of printed ballots.
Tibisay Lucena, president of the Venezuelan Electoral Power, assured the performance of machines and technological platform is perfect, since there were no discrepancies between the votes registered and cast and the final electronic tally. All attendees certified Smartmatic's electoral solution, after verifying and signing the acts from all audits made previously.

Before each election organized in Venezuela using Smartmatic technology, various audits are carried out where the electoral authorities and representatives from the political parties conduct tests over the totality of the voting system in order to certify its proper functionality. In this case, for the upcoming presidential election, it has been organized various events to endorse the automated system, such as: quality tests, audit of voting software, hardware audit, engineering tests, National Electoral Trial and the pre-election audit. Additionally, the same day of the election 54% of the voting machines will be audited, comparing the electronic count against the voting receipts stored in the ballot boxes.
