Robert Cook joins Smartmatic's management team
Caracas, November 03, 2003.- Robert Cook, former president of Unisys for Brazil and Latin America, joins Smartmatic's management team as financial director of the Automated Elections Business Unit (AES).
Robert Cook has more than 36 years of experience with Unisys in the area of technology and finances. He was president of Unisys Corporation for Latin America and the Caribbean for 5 years (1997-2002), president of Unisys Brazil (1992-1996), Marketing Operations vice-president for Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas (1990-1991), vice president and general manager for Latin America and the Caribbean (1988-1990) and president of Unisys Mexico (1984-1988). Cook previously held relevant positions within the corporation, as financial director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and financial director of Unisys Mexico.
"I recognize the great potential of Smartmatic's technology in the device-networking area ", says Robert Cook, the new financial director of AES. "Its vertical solutions for security, automation and control, its highly enterprising and talented human capital, and its Device networking platform using the latest technology. The company has all the elements to become a leader in the new technological trends of the world".
Some of Cook's achievements, for which he was selected for this position, are his successful leadership at Unisys of the first electoral automation project in Brazil, a country with more than 170 million citizens able to vote, the largest electoral population in Latin America. With these elections, Brazil became a pioneer in the implementation of automated voting systems for electoral purposes, allowing the participation of a larger universe of electors (including illiterate and disabled people).
For Antonio Mugica, CEO of Smartmatic, the addition of Cook bodes great success for the company. "We are delighted to have Bob in the team. His long experience of more than 30 years in the area of finances for technology companies, particularly in electoral automation projects, will be very valuable to strengthen our AES unit. His professional background and our device-networking technology are a powerful blend".
