Engineering Test validates Smartmatic technology
Caracas, October 23, 2004.- Smartmatic Corporation announced today that the Engineering Test of the Electoral Voting Solution conducted by the SBC Consortium and the National Electoral Commission was a complete success. The test was conducted on the voting technology and communications infrastructure that will be used during the regional elections held on October 31, 2004.
"This successful Engineering Test showed that any issues found during the simulation two weeks ago have been resolved," said Rector Tibisay Lucena on behalf of the National Electoral Commission.
The Engineering Test covered the input of manual ballots, the certification and transmission of vote summaries, the generation of bulletins regarding results and the generation of the Acts of Adjudication. Test results showed the treatment and tally of manual and electronic ballots functioned perfectly throughout the system.
The data transmission test analyzed the transmission between the 335 municipal centers, 23 regional centers and two District centers and the Tally Center at the National Electoral Commission along the communications channels provided by CANTV. Direct, tamper proof connections were made from each electoral center to the Tally Center under the supervision of technicians from Smartmatic, CANTV and the National Electoral Commission.
"The Engineering Test was another opportunity to ensure, prior to the election, that our electoral technology functions across the system -- for manual ballots, electronic ballots, transmission and tally. We were pleased to show that the SAES system will perform accurately, reliably and transparently in all types of elections regardless of size or structure," said Antonio Mugica, CEO of Smartmatic Corporation.
