99% effectiveness during Venezuelan Electoral Drill

Caracas, October 28, 2008. -  The National Electoral Council (CNE), Smartmatic and the other companies involved in the electoral process, jointly carried out a national drill to test the technological and logistic platform that will be used during the 2008 regional elections in Venezuela, giving as a result 99% effectiveness.

For this event 2.740 voting centers were activated in the country, and out of those 52 were pilot centers where electors had the opportunity to vote just as they would on November 23rd. In every state there were two pilot centers.

The objective of the drill was to evaluate the performance of every electoral element as a whole. The working voting centers tested to measure the development of the automated voting system, the correct functioning of polling stations, voting machines and data transmission methods, among others.

According to CNE member Germán Yépez this drill demonstrated the strength of the technological platform and the human resources the CNE plans to deploy during the November 23 elections.

Among the tests that were carried out was the functioning of the voting machines with power blackouts, which showed optimal results because the process continued as expected despite the planned power cut in Táchira state, for example. Once more effectiveness of the SAES automated system is proved and Smartmatic shows its commitment in improving societies through technology.
