Presidential Elections 2006
Venezuela
On December 3rd, 2006, Smartmatic again brought its technological know-how and expertise to one of Venezuela's key electoral events -- the Presidential Election. In this election, the entire voting system reached almost 100% of automation in the whole country.
The system—which not only provided a wholly electronic balloting system, but also let voters verify their choices with voter verifiable paper trail—allowed the Venezuelan Electoral Council (CNE) to hold a safe, reliable, and easily auditable election. With some 11 million votes cast (and reconfirmed through numerous audits) all of those who participated in the elections agreed on the results just minutes after the first official bulletin was aired.
