Municipal and Parish Elections 2005
Venezuela

On August 7th 2005, Venezuela’s Municipal and Parish Elections were held. The election was important to the communities since they would be deciding on Councilors and Parish Assembly members who would be representing their immediately local interests.  There were 35,247 candidates, who ran for 5,618 offices.

The election saw 56,318 electronic ballots registered nationally.  During the election, 9,270 voting centers and 29,226 electoral tables were in use.  Balloting in the states of Cojedes and Nueva Sparta was 100% automated, using both machines and electronic electoral notebooks.

Throughout Election Day it was clear that Smartmatic’s SAES system offered not only confidentiality, but also a quick and reliable process—from vote casting to electronic counting. Each voter verifiable paper trail not only allowed citizens to verify their choices, but also facilitated accurate auditing afterwards.

Introducing the SAES3300

The Venezuelan Municipal and Parish Elections employed 2,407 of the latest model voting machine, the SAES3300, along with 23,264 SAES3000's, installed in some 6,500 automated voting centers. According to reports from the electoral authorities 99.2% of these worked perfectly during the election.

The new SAES3300 machine offers several new, improved features, including  a 10.1” screen—designed for multiple-choice voting processes—and an extra space on the top of the screen for additional information.
