Constitutional Reform Referendum 2007
Venezuela
The results from the Constitutional Reform Referendum held in Venezuela on December 2, 2007 validated the accuracy, credibility and transparency of Smartmatic’s voting technology. This was proven during a narrowly defeated, with very little margin differential, electoral process.
During this Referendum, SAES (Smartmatic Automated Election System) successfully tallied and transmitted the electoral data of more than nine million electors. Once the polling stations were closed, the National Electoral Council (CNE by its acronym in Spanish) along with the witnesses from both sides audited more than 54% of the ballot boxes. Despite the narrow results, and due to the system’s accuracy and precision, the first official announcement revealed the irreversible triumph of one side and the acceptance and legitimization of results by each and every political factor and national and international observer involved in the event.
“In one of the most narrow and critical elections ever held in our country, Venezuelans have peacefully accepted the tight margin differential victory of one of the contending blocks. At Smartmatic, we firmly believe this consensus would have never been reached without our reliable electoral solution”, said Antonio Mugica, Smartmatic’s CEO.
