On May 15th 2009, the people from Curaçao decided to vote "Yes" on a proposal to gain more autonomy within The Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Smartmatic Auditable Election System (SAES) was deployed for this important Referendum in the biggest and most populated island of the Netherlands Antilles.

The Electoral Council of Curaçao made use of SAES for the second time since 2007, when Smartmatic’s voting technology was successfully implemented. All the audits held during that process properly showed the accuracy of the results, and according to an Electoral Council spokesperson: “The outcome of the machines resulted to be very reliable and there is no necessity to count what is on paper”.

SAES is a guarantee of reliable, accurate and secure elections and once again Smartmatic took part in the modernization of electoral processes for the people of Curaçao.
