Abs-cbn News.com: SWS: 3 out of 4 Pinoys satisfied with May polls
MANILA, Philippines - Having ascertained who their leaders were in just a matter of days, 3 out of 4 Filipinos gave their kudos to the conduct of the elections in May.
Based on the latest Social Weather Stations survey, 75% of Filipinos are satisfied with the automated May elections, a far-cry from the last 2 elections that were done manually.
In 2004, only 53% were satisfied and 35% were dissatisfied with the elections. The numbers further slumped in 2007: 51% were satisfied and 32% were dissatisfied.
The June 25-28 survey used face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults in Metro Manila, the Balance of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Public satisfied with Comelec actions
Despite the problems that plagued the automation project, Comelec got the nod of 74% of the general public in terms of the peace and order situation, compared to 60% in 2007.
In terms of its system of voter registration, satisfaction with the Comelec rose by 15 points to 72% from 57% in 2007.
Comelec was also not wanting in terms of information given to voters about registration and voting. About 72% of the respondents were satisfied, compared to the last electionsí 59%.
About 68% of the general public also gave their nod to Comelecís counting of votes in the precinct level. In 2007, only 54% were satisfied.
Consolidation of vote counts at the city/municipal and provincial level, on the other hand, rose by 20 points to 68% from 48%.
Compared to June 2007, satisfaction with the Comelec in proclaiming as winners those who truly got the most votes rose by 12 points to 77% from 65%.
Public also gives nod to other institutions
The public also gave credence to the actions of other election stakeholders.
Teachers serving as Board of Election Inspectors got the nod of 86%, up 12 points from 74% in the last elections.
On maintaining peace and order on election day, 84% are satisfied with the Philippine National Police and 82% are satisfied with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Satisfaction with the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) on honest reporting of the vote count rose by 11 points to 75%.
The survey also found 70% satisfied with Smartmatic Corp. in ensuring the PCOS machines worked properly.
Satisfaction with the Legal Network For Truthful Elections (LENTE) on guarding the canvass of votes in the municipality and provinces rose by 10 points to 66%.
In a complementary survey, satisfaction from poll workers surveyed also posted record highs.
Of the 480 interviewed, 90% were satisfied while 7% were dissatisfied.
