The legislative elections held in Venezuela on december 4th 2005 counted with the deploy and succesful operation of the Smartmatic automated voting system. This electoral event was a complex one given the amount of postulations and offices to be elected; however, the process was done in a quick, fluent and trouble free manner.

For these elections, 3.555 candidates ran for 184 parlamentary seats throughout the whole country: 167 deputies for the National Assembly (97 nominal, 65 list, 3 indigenous, 2 per the excedent of the average of inhabitants in each electoral circumscrpiton), 12 deputies for the Latin American Parliament and 5 for the Andean Parlament.

Around three million venezuelan citizens enforced their right to vote to elect their legislative representatives in 9.235 automated voting centers throughout the national territory.

Representatives of the international observation missions from organisms such as the OAS and the European Union validated the results and the quick, reliable and auditable performance of the SAES voting system, backed up by six big audit processes before, during, and after the electoral event.
