During the same process 12 deputies to the Latin American Parliament were also elected.
According to the CNE, there were 17,575,975 citizens registered to vote. 12,562 polling stations were available, in which 36,563 voting machines were installed.
Smartmatic was in charge of setting up the automated system in order to guarantee its proper functioning. Additionally, the whole platform was tested and audited not only by the CNE but also by the political parties, in order to detect any possible failure before the electoral event.
