Venezuela: Constitutional Amendment Referendum 2009

The Venezuelan constitutional amendment referendum that was held on February 15, 2009 was carried out using 100% Smartmatic auditable technology. This is the eighth time the SAES solution is used in an electoral process in this country and the third referendum process with touch screens for Venezuelans.

Due to the joint experience of Smartmatic and the National Electoral Council (CNE by its acronym in Spanish), which is the highest electoral body in Venezuela, it was possible to build the necessary technological platform to organize the elections in less than three months after the last electoral process.

During this election, 16.949.033 Venezuelans had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. Despite the short time between elections, every process test and auditory which guarantee the proper functioning of SAES was kept. This shows the strengths of the Smartmatic solution and its capacity to carry out reliable elections in short time.

Despite the political polarization in Venezuela, Smartmatic, as electoral supplier, is proud of putting its cutting edge technology at the service of electors, thus consolidating and supporting the most democratic way of expression: the vote.
