Colombia: Cartagena Public Transit Automation 2011

The District of Cartagena has selected Smartmatic as a technology provider for the new Financial Administration Service of the Integrated Mass Transit System in Cartagena de Indias (Transcaribe).  

For the execution of this important project, Smartmatic offers an electronic ticketing system based on the use of Contactless Smart Cards (CSC), mobile wireless networks for the communication of the devices in the system, the most advanced technology for fleet programming and control, and a feature-rich, complete information system for the users.  

Transcaribe is the integrated mass transit system operating in the city of Cartagena and its neighbouring municipalities. In its current plans it includes: trunk, pre-trunk and service roads; transfer and intermediary stations where users can board articulated buses; web portals and a fare collection and  fleet control system.
 
With the implementation of the Transcaribe fare collection and fleet control system provided by Smartmatic and its allies, residents and visitors will benefit from an automated solution towards a sustainable public transportation system, which is modern, efficient and safe.
