Modernising Haiti’s civil registry: Scope
The State of Haiti, its National Identification Office (ONI) and Smartmatic have joined forces to modernise Haiti’s civil registry and its identity system.
When it’s finished, not only will Haiti have a first-rate civil identity registry, it will also have all the necessary technology and knowledge to keep developing for years to come.
Our aims are twofold:
- Modernise the existing civil registry platform
- Transfer our knowledge to help strengthen the National Identification Office (ONI)
The project will allow the ONI to produce, print and to hand out identity cards and birth certificates for Haitian citizens (either resident in the country or abroad).
All the collected data will be recorded in a database encompassing biographic and biometric information.
This will help Haiti design social plans and policies for its population.
